WHAT HAPPENS DURING MAINTENANCE OF THE AUTOMATIC LOADING AND UNLOADING SYSTEM? Make sure that certainty is built in

Having read this article, you will understand the possibilities for loading and unloading when the entire automatic loading and unloading system is temporarily out of service.

Special truck trailers with an integrated or attached loading and unloading system are used for automated shuttle transports. But what happens during maintenance of this system, or when it is out of service for another reason? Does everything grind to a halt?

We don’t want this to happen. That’s why the truck trailers we supply are not just suitable for automatic loading and unloading, but can also be loaded and unloaded in other ways.

To clarify the possibilities, we will consider two different systems. A truck trailer with a slat-based system can be loaded from the rear using a fork-lift truck. However, we do not recommend driving across the slats with a fork-lift. Although our system is solidly constructed and can withstand the load, we wish to guarantee that the system will continue to operate correctly in the long term.

With chain-based systems, there are more possibilities for mechanical support. By taking account of this during the construction phase, it is not only possible to load the truck trailer from the rear with a fork-lift truck or other material handling equipment, but also to drive inside and on top of the system. However, if there is an electricity supply present, we recommend using the chain conveyor in the semi-automatic mode.

We fit all our systems with additional manual controls as standard. The pallets loaded at the rear of the system can be moved inside at the touch of a button, which leaves space for the following pallets.

This standard solution has a drawback: if the fork-lift driver works alone, he must get off the fork-lift each time to operate the manual controls. That’s why our systems can be expanded with the following options:

  1. Wireless remote control to activate the system. The drawback of a wireless remote control is that it is easily lost, particularly if multiple drivers are working on one trailer.
  2. A semi-automatic mode, in which both pallets at the rear of the trailer are detected by sensors. The truck trailer then places the pallets in the trailer automatically.

The option chosen depends on personal preference and budget. A wireless remote control costs less than a semi-automatic system.

Do you have any questions or remarks, or would you like to know more about the best system for the pallets in use at your company? Then please get in touch. We would be happy to discuss this further with you.
